Breakaway Fitness and Athletics has developed an all-star team of trainers, coaches and motivators to kick off summer athletics the right way! We have designed 6 major pillars of success. Building athletes from the ground up has been the focus of each and every one of our coaches. With so many small details being missed in the programming of young athletes we have found a way bridge the gap and fill in the cracks of most youth programming. The concept is simple yet detailed; each athlete has different needs and different demands but one thing is for sure; with the right attitude, anything is possible in the world of sports and life! Mental toughness and the will to adapt is the key foundation to our program. Can you take the pressure? Can he or she take constructive criticism? Will the pressure of fans/parents/peers and internal doubt get the best of you or will you trust those around you and give it your all? Second, we will develop hand-eye and foot-eye coordination. Eighty percent of sports is visual, so by increasing your peripheral vision, depth perception, tracking, and reaction time we can already give our young athletes an advantage. The 3rd stage of our training is mobility, making sure our athlete can be comfortable in uncomfortable positions. The 4th is balance; the majority of studies show that in most sports, having greater balance leads to better performance. For example, dynamic balance ability has been found to be associated with maximal skating speed in ice hockey and a better score in golf. For basketball, in order to move from one side of the court to the other, balance has to be continually established and re-established many times over stopping and starting on a dime, turning, running and jumping. Balance helps keep movements more coordinated and efficient. In a nutshell, balance has been strongly linked to injury prevention. Our 5th focus is agility. The more agile you are on any athletic stage, the more you will be able to perform at a very high level on a consistent basis. With agility consisting of acceleration, deceleration and change of direction at the drop of a hat, 9 out of 10 times it’s not the strongest athlete at these young levels but the more elusive. Finally, our 6th pillar is speed. Like they say, speed kills! In every sport the faster you are the less likely anyone can touch you on any athletic stage. Teaching proper technique, form, leg turn and the proper phases of running will give our athletes a tremendous advantage when working towards the next level of athletics. With these 6 pillars combined you will watch a complete progression of any athlete take place before your eyes but each is key to the next in a long strong link of chains we call the Breakaway System.
